Greetings everyone!! I pray that everyone is doing well, staying healthy and safe. Summer 2020 is in the last stages. Since COVID-19, I have been practicing Social Distancing, Face Covering, keeping my immune system up. I am an Essential Worker on the front lines of Customer Service. My life these past few months has consisted of WORK & HOME!!  I have not done any acting or modeling. I live in New York City, and at the present time, NYC is opening in Phases. For me, my priority is my health and safety!!

It has been a while since I last blogged. I have decided to do a blog post Social Distance Style. The Self-Photo Shoot took place in the comfort of the alley of my house. Super Shout to my Samsung A71 5G Phone from T-Mobile. Without further ado, Let’s Get to it!!!

 

One of the GREAT things about Social Media, is networking, meeting new people and their companies. Before modeling and acting, basketball was my life. On Instagram, I have a childhood friend Malloy “Da Future” Nesmith who is a Basketball Legend (High School, AAU Street Ball, . Malloy was doing an Instagram Live hosted by All Things Hoops. Towards the end of the Live, All Things Hoops did a trivia. Whoever has the BEST Malloy “Da Future” Nesmith Story, they would win a prize. Well GUESS who WON?!? Shockingly ME!!!!!! I was excited because I rarely win any contest.

I have to admit, at first, I was a bit SKEPTICAL of The SOLE PACK. TO ALL THE BRAWN/PLUS SIZE/BIG AND TALL MEN, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I ASKED MYSELF THOSE SAME VERY QUESTIONS WHEN I EITHER DID NOT GET BOOKED/CAST FOR ACTING AND MODELING GIGS. THROUGH TRAIL AND ERROR, AND EXPERIENCE I AM GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU SEVERAL REASONS WHY YOU WERE NOT CAST.

THIS CASTING FLYER WAS FOR A PREVIOUS YEAR. IT IS ONLY BEING USED FOR ILLUSTRATED PURPOSES ONLY!!

YOU SAW A CASTING CALL FOR BIG AND TALL MODELS. YOU'RE VERY EXCITED. YOU HAVE SUBMITTED YOUR PHOTOS VIA EMAIL OR REGULAR MAIL AND YOU ARE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. YOU MAY HAVE BEEN CONTACTED TO GO TO AN IN PERSON CASTING CALL OR AUDITION. IT HAS BEEN DAYS EVEN WEEKS AND NO RESPONSE. I KNOW YOU'RE LIKE, "WHAT IS MY STATUS?". NOW!!! FOR THE MOMENT YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

PART 1: WHY I DID NOT GET CAST?

WRONG: SUBMITTED A SELFIE INSTEAD OF A PROFESSIONAL PHOTO.

REASON #1 YOU DID NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AKA FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS:

IN THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD, ESPECIALLY MODELING & ACTING, PLEASE ALWAYS REMEMBER, TIME IS MONEY!! TIME IS MONEY!!! YES, I REPEATED IT TWO TIMES!! THERE ARE SO MANY ASPIRING MODELS AND ACTORS THAT DID NOT GET BOOKED OR GET A CALL FOR AN AUDITION BECAUSE THEY DID NOT FOLLOW THE PROPER INSTRUCTIONS. READ READ READ THE CASTING NOTICE REQUIREMENTS VERY CAREFULLY!! THERE ARE SPECIFIC DETAILS THAT A PRODUCER OR CASTING DIRECTOR ARE LOOKING FOR. A FEW EXAMPLES ARE, IF THEY WANTED YOU TO SUBMIT A HEAD SHOT, AND YOU SUBMITTED A SELFIE, OR THE HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS ARE 6'0" AND TALLER, AND YOUR HEIGHT IS ACTUALLY 5'10" TALL, CHANCES ARE YOU WILL NOT GET CAST OR A CALL BACK. IF YOU CAN'T FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS, HOW WILL YOU BE ABLE TO FOLLOW PROPER INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SET? 

REASON #2 TOO MANY EMAIL SUBMISSIONS/ TOO MANY PEOPLE ATTENDED A CASTING CALL/ QUOTA MET

PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS SUBMITTING TO THE CASTING CALL VIA EMAIL OR AN IN-PERSON CASTING CALL. BETWEEN SUBMISSIONS THROUGH EMAIL OR ACTUAL IN-PERSON CASTING CALLS, THERE CAN BE BETWEEN 100 TO 500 OR EVEN 1,000 PEOPLE THAT HAVE SUBMITTED. FOR THE MOST PART, WHEN IT IS AN IN-PERSON CASTING THEY TEND TO SEE EVERYONE. WHEN SUBMITTING EMAILS, THERE IS A CUT OFF. THE CASTING DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER WILL NOT SHARE THIS INFO BUT SOMETIMES IT CAN BE VERY OVERWHELMING WITH THE SUBMISSIONS. THE CASTING DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER ALREADY HAVE HOW MANY PEOPLE THEY WOULD LIKE TO CAST. IT CAN BE THEY MAY NEED 20 MALE MODELS. THEY CAST ACCORDING TO HEIGHT, RACE AND NATIONALITY. MOST CASTINGS WILL INFORM YOU IF IT IS FOR A SPECIFIC RACE OR IF IT IS OPEN TO ALL RACES AND NATIONALITIES. TO KEEP THE CASTING DIVERSIFIED WHEN OPEN TO ALL RACES, THEY TAKE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PEOPLE BY RACE.

REASON #3 SPAM MAIL

WE ARE ALL AWARE THAT NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY ON THIS EARTH IS PERFECT AND THAT INCLUDES MODERN TECHNOLOGY. A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE SPAM FOLDER. WHEN YOU SUBMIT A CASTING THROUGH EMAIL, THERE IS A 50% CHANCE THAT YOUR EMAIL COULD LAND IN THE SPAM MAIL. DEPENDING ON THE PERSON THAT IS READING THE EMAILS, THEY MAY NOT CHECK THE SPAM FOLDER AND YOUR CASTING SUBMISSION CAN JUST SIT THERE AND GO UNNOTICED. IT HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS. TRUST ME!!!

REASON #4

THIS SHOULD HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN MY NUMBER ONE REASON BUT THE CASTING DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER DOES NOT LIKE YOUR LOOK!! I'LL REPEAT, THE CASTING DIRECTOR DOES NOT LIKE YOUR LOOK. PLEASE QUOTE ME!!! JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE BIG AND TALL DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE ENTITLED TO BEING CAST. THERE IS SOMEONE WHO IS THE SAME HEIGHT, WEIGHT, BUILD, AS YOU. IT IS NOT A MATTER IF THE CASTING DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER FINDS YOU ATTRACTIVE OR NOT, IT MIGHT BE YOUR LOOK!! THERE ARE CERTAIN LOOKS THERE ARE SEEKING. FOR EXAMPLE I WAS ON AN EPISODE OF THE CBS TV SHOW BLUE BLOODS. THERE WAS A SCENE WHERE THEY NEEDED A BODY GUARD.IT WAS ME AND ANOTHER BIG AND TALL MAN. WE HAD TO PERSONALLY SEE THE DIRECTOR OF THAT EPISODE. THE DIRECTOR LOOK AT US BOTH CAREFULLY, AND THEN SHE CHOOSE THE OTHER BIG AND TALL MAN. HE HAD A ROUGH AND TOUGH LOOK WHILE I HAVE THE GENTLE GIANT LOOK.  WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, YOUR FATE RESTS IN THEIR HANDS. AS STRANGE AS IT MAY SOUND, YOU MAY LOOK LIKE A PERSON THAT THEY DATED OR HAD A NEGATIVE ENCOUNTER WITH. ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW: A LOT OF TIMES PRODUCERS OF FASHION SHOWS AND CASTING DIRECTORS HAVE ASSISTANTS THAT THEY COUNT ON TO SELECT MODELS AND ACTORS. YOUR FATE IS IN THEIR HANDS AS WELL.

*VERY IMPORTANT: THE MALE MODELS/BLOGGERS/INFLUENCERS/DESIGNERS IN THE PHOTOS BELOW WORK VERY HARD TO PERFECT THEIR BRAND AND HAVE EARNED TO BE CAST AND FEATURED IN PROJECTS. THE PURPOSE FOR THESE PHOTOS IS TO EXPRESS MY WORDS THROUGH PHOTOS. THERE IS NO DISRESPECT NTENDED FOR THESE HARD WORKING GENTLEMEN.*

REASON #5 FAVORITISM

I HAVE A SAYING AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME: IT'S NOT WHO YOU KNOW, BUT WHO LIKES YOU AND WHO IS WILLING TO HELP YOU!! IN ALL HONESTY, TO BE FAIR, PRODUCERS AND CASTING DIRECTORS HAVE TO POST CASTING CALLS SO EVERYONE HAS A FAIR CHANCE OF SUBMITTING AND HOPEFULLY BEING SELECTED, BUT TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU, THERE ARE A LOT OF ACTORS AND MODELS THAT DO NOT HAVE TO AUDITION OR SUBMIT TO BE CAST AS AN ACTOR OR MODEL. PRODUCERS AND CASTING DIRECTORS HAVE PEOPLE THEY LIKE AKA "THEIR FAVORITES" AND THEY PERSONALLY CONTACT THEM TO INFORM THEM OF A PROJECT COMING UP AND THEY HAVE BEEN SELECTED. YES, THERE IS A LOT OF POLITICS AND FAVORITISM IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. TRUST ME, A LOT OF PEOPLE DID NOT MAKE IT IN THE ACTING/FASHION INDUSTRY BASED ON THEIR TALENTS.

PART 2: FOUR WORDS YOU SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER AND FOLLOW.

THE FOUR WORDS THAT YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER FORGET ARE:

NEVER TAKE IT PERSONAL!! I AM GOING TO TELL YOU RIGHT NOW, IF YOU ARE THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT TAKES EVERYTHING PERSONAL, THEN ACTING AND MODELING IS NOT THE INDUSTRY YOU SHOULD BE SEEKING A CAREER IN. REAL TALK, YOU WILL GET MORE REJECTIONS THAN BEING BOOKED FOR ACTING AND MODELING GIGS.  HANDLING LIFE SITUATIONS CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT AND A LOT OF PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE TO BE REJECTED. NOT TO GET OFF TOPIC, BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE CANNOT TAKE BEING REJECTED IF A RELATIONSHIP FAILS. THEY STAY IN THE MOMENT, THE PASS, AND THEY DO NOT MOVE FORWARD. THAT IS THE SAME CONCEPT TO A DEGREE WHEN A PERSON DOES NOT GET BOOKED FOR A MODELING OR ACTING GIG.

 I DO NOT LIKE TO GIVE ADVICE. I LIKE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCES. TWO NEGATIVES BRINGS ON MORE NEGATIVES. INSTEAD OF BEING UPSET AND DWELLING ON THE FACT YOU DID NOT GET BOOKED FOR THE PROJECT, LET THAT BE A LESSON LEARNED AND FOCUS ON OTHER CASTING PROJECTS. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE MISSED OUT ON CASTING NOTICES AND AUDITIONS FOR DWELLING ON THE PASS REJECTIONS. REJECTION IS NOT A BAD WORD. IT'S JUST THAT CASTING OR PROJECT WAS NOT FOR YOU. THERE ARE TONS UPON TONS OF ACTING AND MODELING CASTINGS I HAVE SUBMITTED AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE OR AUDITION. I ALWAYS STAY POSITIVE AND HAVE A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE BECAUSE MY TIME WILL COME AND I HAVE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO GET CAST AS A BACKGROUND ACTOR AND MODEL. HAVE PATIENCE, REMAIN HUMBLE, LEARN YOUR CRAFT AND SUBMIT SUBMIT SUBMIT.!!!
